Mahala is initiated into an intact lineage that was brought to the West in the 1990’s, and popularized by Malidoma Some. This lineage is directly connected to the Dagara people in Burkina Faso, where this technique has been practiced for thousands of years.

Mahala is honored to have been initiated as a Stick Diviner, and provided this technology for communicating with the other world. Stick Divination is what people seek when they need to hear the truth, as it is deeply connected to the spirit of the wilds, and the wilds cannot lie.

Stick Divination varies from other forms of divination popular in the west, such as Tarot Reading, as the sessions tend to be longer and are prescriptive in nature. While the beings that come to the divination will offer direct wisdom to answer questions asked, they will also offer guidance in the form rituals to be completed after the divination. These rituals are unique to the individuals, the questions brought to the divination, and the ancestors or other beings that respond to the call. The divination itself is powerful and can be a catalyst for change, but the real healing happens through the rituals prescribed during the session. 

Divinations are available in-person on Mahala’s land in Shelton, WA; or virtually via Zoom. Before the Divination begins, Mahala sets up the space with various protections, make offerings to the beings that will be called, and curates a safe environment for the session.

To start the divination Mahala will complete an invocation, inviting the numerous beings join for the divination, and also asking any other beings that walk with you to join in the name of healing. You will then have the opportunity to speak your questions into a quarter, which will be then offered to the otherworld. Bring 1-3 questions of a personal nature to the divination, see the example section below to learn more about the nature of questions asked.

Once the invocation has been completed and your questions have been offered, the pathways are open for the ancestors and other beings to communicate with you through Mahala. It is recommended that you bring a notebook and writing utensil to document the experience. They may offer wisdom to directly address the questions asked, but their guidance will also come in the form of rituals for you to complete after the divination. Rituals typically come from the ancestors and are unique to each individual and the obstacle being faced.

It is recommended for you to start working on rituals within 1-2 weeks of receiving the divination, but depending on the number of rituals received it can take several weeks to complete all of them. The divination itself is powerful and can be a catalyst for change, but the real healing happens through the rituals prescribed during the session. 

Divinations are a great way to get guidance for your path, overcoming obstacles, and fascilitating healing. It is not a great way to make decisions like choosing a romantic partner or deciding a career path, as those decisions always lie with the individual. These are intentionally vague examples to show the nature of questions asked.
